Drywall Repair Tips

Drywall damage can range from tiny cracks to large holes in the way. Most damage is easy to fix and inexpensive. We have six different ways to repair drywall. The methods used will vary based on the size of the crack, the type, and the location.

Surface Crack Repairs

Drywall is seamless, and it rarely cracks. When a crack does happen, it is usually at the seam where two sheets of drywall meet.

The crack should be widened using a paint scraper or a utility knife. This will help a person see if the crack extends the entire length or width of the seam. Check and see if the tape is loose. If the tape is secure the crack may have been cause by older drywall sheets that have shrunken. Fill the crack with a new compound mixture. Hold the knife at an angle of 70 degrees and swipe it right across. All it try dry and then sand the area. It can then be painted over.

Deeper Cracks

If the tape has become lose and it not attached to the wall or the crack goes through the paper tape use a knife to cut out the tape. The cut should be six to 12 inches on both sides of the damages area. Carefully remove the lose tape. Remove any lose compound. Using the knife extend the crack to the stud. Be careful not to remove any compound that is still in good condition around the crack.
